Free and Open does work

So as Martin announced, I came up with a concept to help raise awareness of Free and Open Works that was inspired by his Free and Open Source booklet. I have chatted with him and Greg from Creative Commons about my concept and was encouraged to pursue.

I believe that Free and Open Works is the best kept secret on the Internet. That is people actually freely sharing their works and even allowing others to build upon those works. I use the term, 'works,' to cover both computer code and the rest of the arts, even though their actual freedoms may differ. All these works being created for the Free and Open Works community is often the highest quality that would rival the best you might purchase otherwise.

My concept was to create a set of web buttons for individuals to display on their site. These buttons could then link to a page that provided more detail about how they fit the identified aspect. Fairly, simple concept that will allow your visitors to become aware of Free and Works and how you fit into its community. Who knows? Seeing dozens of these buttons may inspire their involvement, too.

Expect to see improvements and refinements to the concept in the coming months. If you have questions, comments or want to get involved contact me. Lastly, be sure and visit the 'Free and Open Works' current home on my website for more details and the web buttons.
